Not doing much these days except of looking at this beautiful miracle we have at home :). Most things just seem kind of boring beside the baby. I call her my little rabbit.

Krištof Kintera - Analysis results

We went to Krištof Kintera´s retrospective exhibition Analysis results. It was a huge exhibiton of his statues, objects and installations and was claimed to be very succesful. Some of our friends told us they brought their small children to see it, so I thought it was a good idea to take our three year old daughter. And to tell my friend to go to see it with her two sons (one of them three years old). Let me tell you, it wasn´t a good idea :D. The children were terrified and I knew they would be the moment we walked in. The exhibition was really pretty creepy. I would probably enjoy it without the kids, but with them I was just telling my daughter not to cry all the time...and apologizing to my friend. Oh well, this didn´t really work out, hehe. The most scary thing for Marie was a big devil playing a drum (see a photo my husband took of the unpleasant situation :). For a few days after this experience she kept asking me "why the little devil was playing the drum, mum?" Krištof Kintera did a really fun thing, though, he built a grocery shop in the foyer of the gallery (that was part of the exhibition). You could buy a beer (and walk with the opened beer through the gallery), or a flour and toilet paper. We bought candy to our children to calm them down a bit, so this shop really was handy!
In an article about contemporary czech art I´ve read this funny sentence: "Analysis results is a well prepared exhibition with a relaxed mood, where you can hear adults laugh and children cry." Well, exactly!

in Sázava

This is another abandoned house I love. We drive around it from time to time when we visit my parents. It´s a beautiful old house; I can only imagine how beautiful it used to be. The house is kind of a secluded dwelling in the town of Sázava (an old place, there is also a monastery). I really enjoy painting these ruined houses. Sadly, many of them are going to be destroyed... or are destroyed already (Hotel Hrušov).

at home with Anna

Our beautiful daughter Anna was born on 11. 4. 2012. I had cesarean section (like first time with Marie), but my husband was with me at the hospital and during the surgery, which was great (it was not possible for the first time three years ago at different hospital). I´m still quite tired, exhausted and full of aches, but otherwise very happy. Anna is amazing :).
I´m also reading a terrific book: Mittagsfrau by Julia Franck. A beautifully told story about a woman, starting in 1. world war. Truly amazing with all the historical details.

black leather bag

My new leather bag is finished finallly! It took me a long time to make it from the beginning to the end (I was working on it just here and there), but totally it was quite simple and quick to make. I made it out of an old leather coat from my friend (he bought it for me in a second hand shop in Hamburg and I gave him my graphics print in exchange :D). To tell the truth, I´m not sure what to think about it. The bag looks kind of brutal, and I nearly destroyed my sewing machine when making it, I think. I broke my leather needle, but I´m done with sewing leather I guess! Anyway, I plan to wear it. It´s not elegant, but I never aspired to be "elegant", really. It´ s practical (lots of pockets), big and sturdy. I´m not going to apply for a job wearing this bag, so it should be ok...? I don´t really know :). My thoughts when completing the bag were "I should save my money and buy a new, nice bag", haha. Well, I´m certainly going to give this bag a chance. My beige leather bag I made earlier is falling into pieces anyway... sadly. Maybe some nice brooch would save this black one? Let me know what you think :). waldorf doll

I made a new waldorf doll! It was not very easy process, as I had to make the arms smaller after the doll was completed... I didn´t realise they are going to be so big when I started. The doll is quite tall, around 50cm (I didn´t measure it). The dress is a bit small for her, but I like the dress anyway.

bird slipcover

I made a new slipcover for an old car seat we were given. The original fabric was very old and worn out. I used a sturdy Ikea fabric - I´m just afraid the colours are too light and that it will get dirty soon. Anyway, it can be taken off and washed. It makes me happy to repair something and bring it to a new life :). I made a picture of my huge belly... I look like I could burst any day now.

dress for Marie

I made a new dress for Marie... let´s see if she´s going to wear it :). It´s a bit risky to make anything for her, as she gets quite picky about her clothes. Well, the dress I made her last year is probably too small already, so I think we´ll use this one. It´s quite long, as she likes to pretend she´s a princess... it´s pretty sweet when she sings and dances in the dress at home.
And I´m also showing the knit pants I made for her, at first she liked them but now she doesen´t... oh well :). I should probably only make clothes for myself, because I can be sure someone (me) will wear it!
I´m in awe at the weather. I can´t believe it´s so warm already. We enjoy being outside a lot, Marie running all the time. The winter is over and it was awful - we stayed a lot at home, which was so tiring. I´m so ready for spring. And I´m also ready to deliver the baby I´m carrying. There are still - probably - few weeks ahead of me with the baby inside, but it feels so close now. We all can´t wait for the baby to be out.

Chloé fall 2006 rtw

I borrowed an old (2007) Burda magazine from the library - I didn´t find anything I would like to sew, but I saw a small image from Chloé fashion show that I loved (above). After some googling I found out it´s Chloé 2006 fall collection. I like the whole collection so much. Of course, some of it is not very flattering, the styles are often boxy and shapeless, but many designs appeal to me a lot. I love the dresses, the colors, it just looks so romantic and wearable. Inspiring for sewing!

building a house

I had this idea in my head for a longer time: to make a doll house from a cardboard box. We have plenty of these at home, so the only problem would be the construction. Making the base was simple, it´s just a box. I had more throuble with the roof, it takes a bit more thought to make it firm (in the end I couldn´t make it as firm as I wanted...). The house is probably not finished yet, but I´m so pleased with it that I decided to post some photos anyway. I love making the interior - much more fun than the outer construction! I would like to add something yellow... kitchen cabinets or something. Of course, all of this is very simply and quickly made - I didn´t want it to be perfect. Also, it would help to have thicker wrapping paper, which I didn´t. I will probably work on it some more, but if I don´t... I like it anyway the way it is now :).

an award for me

I got an award! From the fine girls Lavender and Hana. Thank you ladies, I was very happy to hear this :). I´m not going to nominate anyone, because I don´t really read a lot of blogs. These days I find very little time to sit by the computer, and then I look at three or four blogs I like and know for a long time and that´s it. I don´t feel like I could find anything new for someone out there...

In other news, I´m cleaning up a room for Marie and I´m happy she likes to be in the room a lot. I just don´t know if she´s willing to sleep there. So far, she sleeps downstairs and the spare room is upstairs... It´s a bit of a hassle to walk upstairs for both me and her in the evening. I can´t decide when to put her bed upstairs. Before the baby is born would be probably a better time...
Aaand the baby! My belly is so huge; people keep telling me, wow, you belly is so huge, I had no idea this can get that big! :) Yeah, and for me, it´s pretty difficult. I can´t wait for the baby to be out (but at the same time I need some time before it´s born to organize few things...). My clothes are all almost too small, I have almost nothing to wear now. Well, something over a month to go.

I saw these wooden dolls somewhere on Pinterest recently, and remembered seeing them in a shop in Prague many years ago. I love them! They are 40cm high and there are two kinds: armless and naked, and in wooden dresses with arms. Unfortunately, they are very expensive, I could never afford one. I would buy the naked one and make her a fabric dress...

I´ve already posted a part of these, but now they are complete! I wanted to make a set of five outfits and finally they are finished: four dresses and a coat.

blue foxes everywhere

So, as you may know, I´ve been a bit obsessed by the vision of blue fox since summer last year. It´s because I had a dream then: in that dream I saw two blue foxes looking at me... outside, in a white landscape. (A bit later I found out I became pregnant some day around that time..) It was such a strong experience, I couldn´t stop thinking about that dream. I promised to paint it and I did. But that was not enough, blue foxes stayed in my brain and I was thinking about other ways to bring them to life. So I made small fox ornaments on Christmas, and for a long time planned to make a bigger, toy fox. It took a lot of planning, drawing and one unsuccesful pattern test fox. But now it´s finished. This is the first one, I´m certainly making more and I´m so proud :). This one is made from dark blue corduroy I found in my stash and the removable skirt is from organza.
