baby pants

I love my new overlock! I made these baby harem pants for our friend´s little girl, size 74, approximately. I hope they fit her this autumn! There are still some things with the overlock that I need to work out - mainly what to do with the threads´ ends. On normal straight stitch machine you can backstitch easily, but with overlock you just let the ends long and finish them afterwards. But beside that, I´m pretty excited and so far I´ve used the overlock almost every day :).
I love the little floral "tag" I´ve made on the side. I would also like to add some tag with my name "janul" somewhere... maybe next time, if I figure how to do that :). It would also great to be able to put a lable with a size there.

Found this old picture of myself in Ikea. Mirrors are so magical.

doll for a friend

It´s finished! It took me ridiculously long time to make it, but to defend myself I have to say I had a baby in the meantime! :)

evening in the living room

sleeping? no, thanks...

I can sleep, when I´m dead! Or that´s probably what my baby thinks :D. She´s sleeping for short periods during the day and waking up continuously during the night. Exhausting! But I´m definitely loosing all my baby weight this way... and something more I guess.
Also, I´ve threaded my overlock machine (whoa! this thing is quite compicated! but I hope next time this process is much easier...) and been practicing a bit. So far I haven´t mastered everything and don´t understand how to do some things, but I guess that will come with time and practice.
Also, muy husband was cleaning his office and gave me a table, so that I could use it for my sewing machines! Isn´t that great? Now I have two tables, but I´m still not really sure which one of them is more suitable for machines... Anyway, I have more place for working now :).

men´s boxer shorts

So, let me tell you a story... about a nice, huge shirt (a caftan, maybe). It was a handmade shirt, made by my husband´s exgirlfriend.
I really love the fabric, nice colour, pattern, and very soft...

omg it´s my overlock!

Sooooo, after much thinking I decided to buy an overlock. It´s Brother 3034D. I´m excited, but at the same time afraid I won´t learn how to use it. So many buttons and numbers and it just looks quite complicated! But I hope I will... somehow :D. I´m writing this at 10pm with a headache after a night of short sleep (most nights these days), so I don´t think I´ll get to use the brand new overlock today (it arrived this afternoon). And it seems my table is kind of small :D.
Also, could someone PLEASE help me with the pictures setting in Blogger? They always appear quite small on the site, what can I do to make them bigger?

life

Life sometimes brings wonderful things.
Bathing in the river... and friends.
Woody Allen makes the greatest movies, I can watch them over and over.
The VERY naughty comic book Pascin written by Joann Sfar about jewish painter Julius Pinkas called "Pascin".
And the like :).

knit cap

I made a knit cap for Marie... maybe my fastest sewing project ever :). I like it and would like to make more, for Anna too. An overlocker would be sooooo great to have for things like this! But, it´s so expensive and I´m not sure I would learn how to use it. But the idea of buying one is definitely growing in my head despite the price.
Also, I´ve seen this dress on Pinterest today. I love it so much! Such a romantic dress, so beautiful I can´t stand it :D.

my first quilt

I made a quilt! A year ago I cut few squares from some remnants of my favourite fabrics. There were many other projects to do, so I didn´t have time to sew the squares together then. Few days ago I was looking for something and found the fabric squares, decided to sew them together and make a small blanket. I really liked making this and it felt so cool, haha. (There´s nothing so cool like making a child-sized quilt, right? :)
I´ve always liked making collages out of paper and this is very similar I think. There are just countless possibilities of colour and pattern combinations. Also, with two small girls, it´s a good thing I like pink... mostly :).

new skirt

Look, I made a skirt! It´s a bit big on me, because I cut the knit waistband while I was pregnant (I wanted to make a maternity skirt at first). But I still have a small belly, so it somehow works :). The skirt is actually made from the Josephine dress I made. I couldn´t wear the dress, because it was too small in the bust for me now (sigh!) and it´s impossible to breastfeed in dresses anyway. I love the skirt and wear it a lot.

so beautiful

Not doing much these days except of looking at this beautiful miracle we have at home :). Most things just seem kind of boring beside the baby. I call her my little rabbit.

Krištof Kintera - Analysis results

We went to Krištof Kintera´s retrospective exhibition Analysis results. It was a huge exhibiton of his statues, objects and installations and was claimed to be very succesful. Some of our friends told us they brought their small children to see it, so I thought it was a good idea to take our three year old daughter. And to tell my friend to go to see it with her two sons (one of them three years old). Let me tell you, it wasn´t a good idea :D. The children were terrified and I knew they would be the moment we walked in. The exhibition was really pretty creepy. I would probably enjoy it without the kids, but with them I was just telling my daughter not to cry all the time...and apologizing to my friend. Oh well, this didn´t really work out, hehe. The most scary thing for Marie was a big devil playing a drum (see a photo my husband took of the unpleasant situation :). For a few days after this experience she kept asking me "why the little devil was playing the drum, mum?" Krištof Kintera did a really fun thing, though, he built a grocery shop in the foyer of the gallery (that was part of the exhibition). You could buy a beer (and walk with the opened beer through the gallery), or a flour and toilet paper. We bought candy to our children to calm them down a bit, so this shop really was handy!
In an article about contemporary czech art I´ve read this funny sentence: "Analysis results is a well prepared exhibition with a relaxed mood, where you can hear adults laugh and children cry." Well, exactly!

in Sázava

This is another abandoned house I love. We drive around it from time to time when we visit my parents. It´s a beautiful old house; I can only imagine how beautiful it used to be. The house is kind of a secluded dwelling in the town of Sázava (an old place, there is also a monastery). I really enjoy painting these ruined houses. Sadly, many of them are going to be destroyed... or are destroyed already (Hotel Hrušov).

at home with Anna

Our beautiful daughter Anna was born on 11. 4. 2012. I had cesarean section (like first time with Marie), but my husband was with me at the hospital and during the surgery, which was great (it was not possible for the first time three years ago at different hospital). I´m still quite tired, exhausted and full of aches, but otherwise very happy. Anna is amazing :).
I´m also reading a terrific book: Mittagsfrau by Julia Franck. A beautifully told story about a woman, starting in 1. world war. Truly amazing with all the historical details.
