granny chic

I don´t know what´s happening to me, but I´m really into old time-y furnishings, clothes and things lately. I´m not a huge fan of vintage clothes or patterns (or the word "vintage" ;), I´m ok wearing contemporary clothing, but somehow this style (or, just something from it) is very appealing to me. Few days ago I saw a retro gramophone in the shop and I liked it so much! Oh man, let´s imagine red velvet couches, lace, crocheted throws, brass beds, romantic lamps, florals... :)

p.s. next time I´ll try to come up with something more modern ;)

  1. You don't have to come up with anything modern for me. :-) I like vintage, and I liked the word, too, before I realised it's kind of overused these days. I still use it, though, because it works for designating things that are approx. 1920-1970, an era I like a lot of things from, and I have no idea what I'd call those things otherwise. But I only use it in English...

I like the feel of appartments with old furnishing. Maybe because we've never had it; both my parents are the oldest and moved out first, so we had all new furnishings (now they're old, of course, but not that old yet...). Isn't that the case? Looking for something that suggests having long roots, something like that? I'd imagine a minister's wife would like a bit of that at times. :-)

  2. Hehe, I just call it "old stuff" :).
And I think it´s because earlier things were made better, they were made to last longer, the materials were good... that´s what I like about it. Most of all, I like everything that´s practical, functional, and beautiful. A lamp is functional, and a picture on the wall is practical, as it doesen´t take any space :).

  3. True, the "made to last" aspect of old stuff is a strong incentive. :-)
